LAST LIGHT

v0.1.1 · MIT · Not reviewed yet · Grown by Jason Brashear

An off-grid library that answers out of real books and names the page.

Install

Open in Tiiny App Farm

Nothing opened? Get the launcher.

farm install last-light && farm start last-light

Then open http://localhost:8700. New here? Install the farm CLI first.

What it does

Ask a question in plain words and get an answer built only out of the books on this device, with the book and the page it came from printed under it. When the shelf does not cover the question it says so rather than inventing an answer, which is the whole point of it: a library you can trust at the moment you cannot check anything. Browse the shelves, read what is on them, and look a subject up by name. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is looked up online; the retrieval and the answering both happen on your Tiiny, and the books sit on your own disk. This is the books half of the archiver repo, the same corpus the notes half reads, and it is the half that assumes the power is out. It does not build a shelf from your own PDFs, because turning a PDF into text needs a program the farm will not run; instead it downloads a prebuilt shelf once, checks it by length and by hash before unpacking it, and then works with nothing connected. On first run it says the shelf is not here yet and offers to fetch it, and that fetch now works: the shelf is published as its own release, 5,955 documents of Vikidia articles and survival PDFs that are free to pass on. Python standard library only.
